Game Concept (KIT109 assignment 2)
Concept Statement:
A fantasy world with cities, castles and dungeons to explore. Create your own character and meet other characters with their own quirks. Explore dungeons in a top down view while levelling up and finding better equipment. Fight monsters and dragons by commanding your teammates to do various tasks such as defend you or cast powerful magical spells.
Genre:
The genre of the game will be an action adventure role playing game. The game will feature aspects from role playing games by having equipment such as weapons and armour functioning similarly to other role playing games and a system to allow the player to increase their character’s abilities by levelling up by defeating enemies and completing quests. The game will also be action adventure as exploring dungeons will be a large aspect of the game along with fighting enemies in real time combat.
Concept creation process:
The theme of the game is inspired by other games such as “The Legend of Zelda”, “Mount & Blade: Warband” and “Shin Megami Tensei”. While the game’s setting is primarily a fantasy like “The Legend Of Zelda”, it’s gameplay is inspired primarily by these three video games. The setting is most similar to “The Legend Of Zelda” as the player will be able to visit dungeons which contain both monsters and treasures. The game will also have a similar look as some games in Legend Of Zelda series such as “” which has a top down view.
Just like how “Mount & Blade: Warband”, the game will have time progression, time will progress when travelling between places (such as from a city to a dungeon), travelling between places will work in a similar way to Warband by looking at a world map. By having time progression, shops will be able to run out of items and restock after a certain amount of time, in the game “Mount & Blade: Warband” the player is able to buy goods at different prices based on the location of the city and possibly sell the items in a different city at a higher price, this will give the player an incentive to constantly travel between towns and cities.
The game will feature the ability to level up just like in other role playing games such as “Shin Megami Tensei” which allows the player to increase specific parts of their stats to either increase their strength, agility, etc. Just like in “Shin Megami Tensei” and other rpgs you’ll be able to have party members join you, to control these party members you will be able to click on the screen where you’d like them to walk, this will allow the control of the party members to be separate from the player’s character.
Audience and competitive analysis:
The main audience of the game is fans of role playing games and games such as “The Legend Of Zelda”, the game will allow both casual and more experienced role playing game fans to enjoy the game. The game will have combat that can have strategy to it by using magic spells and such as well as exploring cities which will be a much more casual experience.
Since the game will have a levelling system, even people who aren’t too good (such as me) will still be able to complete quests to increase the power of their character allowing them to have a better chance at overcoming strong enemies. Outside of dungeons the game will be much slower paced as the threat of constantly fighting enemies will not be present, this will allow more casual players to explore the game.
Treatment:
The game will feature combat that will allow the player to use skills and magic to fight enemies, they will also be able to bring party members into battles. With party members, they will not be directly controllable, but specific command can be given to them, an example would be asking a mage to launch a spell at the location you click on with your mouse.
The objective of the game will be to defeat an evil demon lord, at the start of the game you will not know much about this demon lord, but as you progress through the game by exploring dungeons, you'll uncover more about this demon lord and how to defeat him.
Characters will be able to use skills and magic in combat, the characters will receive these skills based upon their class/job or specific quests. By levelling up enough, the characters will be able to upgrade their class/job to receive more unique skills and magic, some classes and jobs will only be available to characters with certain traits.
